  26.     INSTALLATION

  28.     αWARNING: You must have a copy of VBRUN300.DLL in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  29.     directory before proceeding with this installation! If you do not have
  30.     this file, download it from HTTP://WWW.HALCYON.COM/CBUTTON/WELCOME.α

  32.     Your diskette contains a SETUP program which will automatically
  33.     install all of the files and libraries on your hard drive.
  34.     To install FINANCIAL AUTHORITY:
  35.     1. From the Windows Program Manager select FILE, then select RUN.
  36.     2. Type and Enter A:SETUP (or B:SETUP).
  37.  
  38.     SETUP will then run. It will expand all of the compressed files
  39.     on the diskette and place them in their correct directories. A
  40.     new FINANCIAL AUTHORITY Program Group and its icon will be added
  41.     to Program Manager.
  42.  
  43.     If the following error message should occur during SETUP: "Cannot copy
  44.     file XXXX.XXX" where XXXX.XXX is any file name such as DDEML.DLL,
  45.     VER.DLL, MMSYSTEM.DLL, etc. then, CLOSE ALL PROGRAMS THAT ARE CURRENTLY
  46.     RUNNING BEFORE YOU RUN SETUP (only Program Manager should be running)!
  47.     Then run SETUP. Should this fail to solve the problem, delete the
  48.     current version of "XXXX.XX" and then run SETUP again. OVERVIEW

  51.     FINANCIAL AUTHORITY is a financial analysis program which contains
  52.     seven investment modules:
  53.  
  54.     1.  Loan Amortization - The options for a fixed rate loan include:
  55.     required monthly payment, amount which can be borrowed, highest
  56.     affordable interest rate, true interest when points are charged,
  57.     years required to repay loan, balloon payments, accelerated
  58.     payments (both interim or for the duration of the loan). A
  59.     schedule (monthly or annual) for cumulative interest paid,
  60.     principal paid, and remaining balance can be printed to the screen
  61.     and to a printer. A graph of Remaining Loan Balance versus Years
  62.     can also be displayed and printed.

  64.     2. Annuity - The options for an immediate annuity (withdrawals
  65.     start immediately and continue until the annuity is depleted)
  66.     include: income, required amount, life of the annuity, rate of
  67.     interest earned. An annualized schedule of interest earned and
  68.     remaining balance can be printed to the screen and to a printer.
  69.     A graph of Amount Remaining in the Annuity versus Years can also
  70.     be displayed and printed.

  75.     3. Fixed and Periodic Investments
  76.  
  77.     Fixed Investment Growth - Options for a lump sum investment
  78.     include: value of investment at maturity, required initial
  79.     investment, years required to reach goal, or interest rate
  80.     required (the interest can be compounded daily, monthly,
  81.     quarterly, semiannually or annually). Comparisons of tax free,
  82.     taxed deferred, and fully taxed investments can also be performed.

  84.     Periodic Investment Growth - Investments can be made weekly,
  85.     biweekly, monthly, quarterly, semiannually, or annually. Options
  86.     include: value of all investments at maturity, required periodic
  87.     investments, years required to reach goal, required interest rate;
  88.     interest can be compounded daily, monthly, quarterly,
  89.     semiannually, or annually.

  91.     Diversified portfolios in which fixed or periodic investments are
  92.     made can be evaluated. Annualized schedules of interest earned and
  93.     current values can be printed to the screen and to a printer.
  94.     Graphs of total investment value versus years can also be
  95.     displayed and printed.

  99.     4. U.S. EE Bonds - The options for EE savings bonds include:
  100.     create or edit a file of currently owned EE Bonds (serial numbers,
  101.     denomination, and purchase date); evaluate your savings bond
  102.     portfolio (current or future value) based on U.S. Treasury
  103.     guaranteed minimum interest rates; print (to screen and printer)
  104.     your portfolio of bonds, including minimum value of each bond and
  105.     a total minimum value for the entire portfolio. The minimum total
  106.     value of your portfolio may be projected over any future time
  107.     period (e.g., the values between 1995 and 2005). This projection
  108.     may be displayed as a data table or as a graph, on your screen and
  109.     on your printer.

  111.     5. Mutual Fund Analysis - Evaluates the performance of a mutual
  112.     fund over a user-specified time period.  Three measures of
  113.     performance are produced:

  115.       a. Growth of Annual $1000 Investments
  116.       b. Growth of an Initial $10,000 Investment
  117.       c. Average Annual Compounded Return

  123.     Data, readily obtainable from the mutual fund's prospectus, is
  124.     entered by the user and then analyzed to generate the performance
  125.     measures for each year of the desired time period.  Output may be
  126.     directed to the screen and to a printer. A graph of each of the
  127.     three performance measures versus years can also be displayed and
  128.     printed.

  130.     6. Retirement Planning - Inflation during your retirement years
  131.     must be considered in your retirement planning.  This program
  132.     allows you to test various rates of inflation to determine the
  133.     lump sum investment that you will need at retirement, the amount
  134.     that you can withdraw each year from an anticipated pool of money,
  135.     and the number of years until your investments are depleted. A
  136.     schedule, showing your required income, annual withdrawals,
  137.     remaining balance, and interest earned, may be printed to the
  138.     screen and on a printer.  A graph of the remaining balance versus
  139.     years can also be displayed and printed.

  147.     7. Assets Database - A database of your current assets (e.g.,
  148.     stocks, bonds, CD's, etc.), number of shares, and share prices can
  149.     be created and saved for future reference. Total values for each
  150.     asset, portfolio percentages, and total value of the entire
  151.     database can be calculated, printed, and displayed graphically as
  152.     either pie or bar charts.

  156.     1. GRAPHICAL PLOTS may be displayed for any schedule. Pie and bar
  157.     graphs for your portfolios or current assets can also be
  158.     displayed. All graphs may be printed or copied to the Windows
  159.     Clipboard.

  161.     2. A pop-up MATH CALCULATOR allows you to perform simple
  162.     arithmetic calculations (+, -, x, /, %).

  164.     3. A pop-up DATE INTERVAL CALCULATOR allows you to determine the
  165.     number of days, the number of weeks, the number of months, and the
  166.     number of years between any two selected dates.

  171.     4. A PERPETUAL CALENDAR may be displayed and optionally printed.

  173.     5. A COPY TO CLIPBOARD option is available on all schedules
  174.     printed to your screen. Highlight all or a portion of the
  175.     displayed schedule, select "Copy" from the FILE Menu, and the
  176.     selected text can then later be pasted into any other Windows
  177.     application (e.g., Word for Windows, WordPerfect for Windows,
  178.     Windows Write, Charisma, etc.). Any graphical plot may also be
  179.     copied to the Clipboard.

  181.     6. EXAMPLE CALCULATIONS are just a mouse click away; they may be
  182.     viewed by simply clicking on the word "Example".

  374.     In multiple regression, the dependent variable (Y) is predicted in
  375.     terms of 2 or more independent variables or predictors (X1, X2, etc.).
  376.     KURV+ will calculate the least-squares coefficients for linear
  377.     regression with two, three, or four predictors. The general form of the
  378.     equation is: Y = b0 + b1*X1 + b2*X2 + b3*X3 + b4*X4  where Y is the
  379.     dependent variable, X1, X2, X3, X4 are the independent predicators, and
  380.     b0, b1, b2, b3, b4 are the coefficients to be calculated.
